I got married to an American Citizen and immigrated from Canada to the USA. To become a new citizen of the USA I had to embrace the change.  Leaving behind all of my family, friends and professional network I had no option but to create an new dream, vision and aspirations in order to thrive in the USA. It was not easy leaving behind everything I had worked so hard to accomplish in life, especially my professional career as a Socio-Economic Specialist within the Federal Government Regulatory Agency in Canada. 

After a short period of time, I found myself in a situation that forced me to file for a divorce. I am facing my own contentious litigation Family Law case for over 7 years regarding legal decision making (custody) having paid over $300,000 in legal fees and associated costs (Forensic Psychologist, Parenting Coordinator, Court Appointed Special Advocate, Safe Harbor Therapist, etc) in two countries. I became very intimidated by the court process and upset about the legal fees and costs associated to be represented in court. At times it became very difficult to respond to the constant onslaught of litigation with an opposing party that has endless financial resources to continue year after year to litigate. I experienced a number of losses over the years when not adequately represented by an Attorney in court and did not want what I went through to happen to anyone else. It was unfair to think that access to the Justice System was tied to a persons ability to pay for a lawyer (retain counsel). It became clear to me that may have been the case.

I spent many days and long nights often in tears preparing my own documents. There was a point where I felt voiceless, and did not want to succumb to my circumstances. The challenges led to my restart. I was inspired to change my hardship into something good. I decided to take paralegal classes, began networking and working in the field. I encountered an Attorney that was willing to work with me on my limited income, and to this date he still is on the record. I know what it is like to have an advocate on my side. He is a real blessing.  

I soon realized my own passion to establish my 'American Dream' to pursue further education and make a difference serving my community in the legal field. It is simple, I am helping everyday people to be heard (experience due process) to fill out forms that are needed to access the court system, and supporting them without giving legal advice. That is the true meaning of the word  "in propria persona" means "for one's own person". Because one person's professionalism, knowledge and kindness helped me, I too want to return the favor to my community.

My background experience (university education, employment and volunteer), personal interests and my values led me to becoming an entrepreneur in the legal services field. I am beyond happy to see a smile on my clients face after their court documents get filed. 

As the CEO of the company, I am living my passion and am so grateful to be able to do so. I love the diversity of my clientele. The personal touch in this line of business is richly rewarding. I would not want to change a minute of the struggle, or I may have missed this opportunity to make a difference in serving my community.

I am an avid believer in lifelong learning and volunteerism. I am pursuing my Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice on a part-time basis. As a former volunteer for the Palo Alto Police Department I assisted with public engagement for their Community Policing Program. I helped to strengthen the ties between the community and First Responders. I also have a heart for senior citizens to keep connected by providing support on how to use basic technology.

I was inspired by a Latino member of the Arizona House of Representatives. As an Attorney, he operated his own Law firm for many years. He was a close family friend, and my inspiration. He showed me that regardless of ethnicity, political or religious affiliation, it is important to treat others with respect and kindness.  He demonstrated that all things are possible, for those that work hard and follow their "calling" in life even when different paths present themselves.  Although he came from a farm worker family and had many obstacles to overcome - he raised an accomplished family, graduated ASU, and is a U.S. Army veteran.  I aspire to become a leader like him.

I love my career working at myassistant365 because I feel so grateful to pursue my dream.  I believe the rule of law is so important, as is lifelong learning.  myassistant365 mission and values align with mine, and that allows me to live my best life.  I am living my best life on purpose to help the community, and in pursuit of higher education to continue to dedicate my life to serving others.
